Cherry Hill Fire Department is Ready!!!!
Locally, the Cherry Hill Fire Department has been preparing and training for a number of years to ensure a timely and comprehensive response during a disaster. To read more about what your fire department has done and how they plan to continue preparations, read the article in our Hot Topics section entitled Cherry Hill Fire Department is Prepared for Terrorism
Equally prepared are the other public safety agencies and essential services that operate in and around Cherry Hill. The Cherry Hill Police Department has taken an active and practical role in preparing their officers and getting information to the public. Two of the most critical needs in handling any emergency are preparation and communication. Your Fire, Police & EMS Departments have initiated regular meetings of all the public safety agencies that serve you.
Issues have been discussed, response plans have been designed and systems have been upgraded. Cooperation amongst public safety agencies is now assured as it is more clear than ever, that our community requires and deserves it.
How Can I Make My Family Safe?
While it is impossible to predict if or when the next disaster may occur, it is equally impossible to defend yourself against all possible threats. What you can do, however, is take a few simple steps to insure the safety and accountability of your family and loved ones.
We recommend being prepared to make your family comfortable, during any disaster, by supplying a First Aid Kit, several days worth of food rations & water, clothing & bedding, emergency items, and basic tools. Check out the Homeland Security's site on what to put in your Family First Aid Kit
Is there a way to protect against Chemical, Biological, and Radiological & Nuclear Emergencies?
The Homeland Security web site, www.ready.gov, gives specific guidance for these threats and appropriate precautions. Generally speaking, exposure protection can be accomplished by using the following guidelines – Time, Distance & Shielding. Time – minimizing the time spent being exposed to an event will reduce risk. Distance – obviously, the further you are from the event and fallout, the lower your exposure will be. Shielding – protection in place (home, office, and school) acts as a barrier and limits exposure. The removal of clothing and flushing with copious amounts of water is also recommended for the majority of exposures.
