Station 6, located at Burnt Mill & Haddonfield Roads, was built in 1967 by the Woodcrest Fire Co. to replace the converted barn/garage, graveled driveway, Melrose Ave. Station. The original station, pictured below, stood in what is now the parking lot of the Woodcrest PATCO High-Speed Line parking
lot.
Additionally, the Fire Company wanted to build on the other side of the grade level, train track crossing that was Woodcrest Road. In fact, several retired members of the Woodcrest Fire Company can remember
being on the wrong side of the old, and busy, freight and commuter train tracks during a fire call.
The new station was built to handle the increased call volume from the southeast sections and neighborhoods of Cherry Hill.
Currently, Station 6 is staffed 24 hours a day by Cherry Hill Firefighters.
